Time is Camouflage

40”x30” oil on canvas, framed in natural pine to approximately 42”x32”

$3600

While painting Time is Camouflage, I chose to combine a more contemporary palette with the traditional composition of the elk standing alert and focused on the viewer. I used layering to create dimension in the surrounding space, in places blurring the background with the body, and overlapping blocks of paint onto the legs and neck, as if the animal is standing in a camouflaged environment unlike what is naturally found. We must all adapt as our environment changes.

Time is Camouflage was on view at the Niza Knoll Gallery in the Arts District on Santa Fe in Denver as a part of the juried exhibit "Animal Kingdom" from May 13 - June 12, 2022.
