Zebras were everywhere in Kenya when we visited in 2023. We saw them in Hells Gate National Park, Nairobi National Park, and in the Maasai Mara. They were always in groups, ranging from small clusters to full herds, and often mixed with other animals. They seemed so orderly, walking in single-file lines surrounded by herds of chaos. The zebra in this painting mirrors that relationship with the expected repeating pattern of stripes but with breaks in the boundary between zebra and surrounding abstraction..
